We are sorry to hear of the death of Frank McCourt, a Pulitzer prize-winning and gracious author, who we at Anderson’s were honored and privileged to host in November 2007. The author best known for 1996’s Angela’s Ashes, also wrote `Tis, and Teacher Man. But Mr. McCourt visited us to celebrate his holiday gift book, Angela and the Baby Jesus and the children’s picture book by the same name. His event was held at the Tivoli Theatre in Downers Grove and we remember how generous Mr. McCourt was, sharing the stage and spotlight with his illustrator, Loren Long. We hope the 300 guests who attended the event shared the same warm memories we have of a wonderful evening with a celebrated memoirist and author. Click here to view photos from our event with Frank McCourt.
Crime Scene “Fleshed Out”
Gene and Joanne Wagner of Naperville were amazed Sunday to find that their grandson, Henry, who was visiting from out of state “fit” the description of the victim in the Anderson’s Bookshop crime display.
Sisters Maisie, Maddie, and Emily were not in agreement as to their brother’s ultimate fate. Some experts might say the Henry already has “victim issues” by virtue of having three older sisters. Henry would not comment on the incident.
Thanks to the Wagner Family for helping us all have some fun at Anderson’s Bookshop.
We hosted Author Chris Bradford this April for his book Young Samurai: The Way of the Warrior. Below is a video of the highlights of his recent Young Samurai tour.

J K Rowling says: “There was understandable disappointment among Harry Potter fans when only one copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard was offered to the public last December. I am therefore delighted to announce that, thanks to the generous support The Tales of Beedle the Bard will now be widely available to all Harry Potter fans. Royalties will be donated to the Children’s High Level Group, to benefit institutionalised children in desperate need of a voice. The new edition will include the Tales themselves, translated from the original runes by Hermione Granger, and with illustrations by me, but also notes by Professor Albus Dumbledore, which appear by generous permission of the Hogwarts Headmasters’ Archive.”
Containing clues that were to prove crucial to Harry Potter’s final mission to destroy Lord Voldemort’s Horcruxes, The Tales of Beedle the Bard is the volume of five wizarding fairy tales left to Hermione Granger by Albus Dumbledore in the seventh and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Only one – The Tale of the Three Brothers – is recounted in the book. In The Tales of Beedle the Bard, the four remaining stories are revealed for the very first time. Their titles are as follows: The Wizard and the Hopping Pot, The Fountain of Fair Fortune, The Warlock's Hairy Heart, Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump and The Tale of the Three Brothers. Anderson’s Bookshops are happy to announce a literary debut from someone in our own backyard. Trisha Prabhu, of Naperville, is a third grader at Welch Elementary School, but the eight-year-old has a new title: author. Her new book, Christmas and Commitment Go Together ($6.00) is available at Anderson’s in Naperville.
“Ever since I was six, I’ve been writing,” explains Trisha, who credits her second grade teacher with inspiring her to write. But this book, from a holiday story she posted on Kidpub.com, is the first she’s published.
When the finished books were delivered to Trisha’s house, she was understandably excited. “I was jumping and whooping and hooping because they had my name on them and everything,” Trisha says.
Trisha stopped in recently, autographed copies of Christmas and Commitment Go Together and talked about some of her favorite things: spelling, math, reading, politics, environmental solutions and Hannah Montana. Anne of Green Gables is her favorite book.
